Sol Gabetta's cello acts as a projection screen as she performs Elgar's masterpiece

Sol Gabetta will perform Elgar's Cello Concerto at the First Night of the Proms on July 15 with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and conductor Sakari Oramo. To mark the occasion, the BBC and 59 Productions have collaborated on an enchanting new film in which images that reflect Elgar's music are projected on to the body of Gabetta's cello as she plays the concerto.

A 'making of' film has also been produced in which the technology behind this beautiful film is explored:

Gabetta's recording of Elgar's Cello Concerto for RCA Red Seal was an Editor's Choice in the October 2010 issue of Gramophone, with Rob Cowan noting that 'Beauty and talent can go hand-in-hand and Sol Gabetta’s Elgar Concerto is one of the best around, a heartfelt, tonally rounded performance, intimate and wholly at one with Mario Venzago’s generally subtle handling of the orchestral score.'
